PHOTOS: Winter Weather Shuts Down Austin

A cold front brought freezing temperatures, sleet and even a little snow to Central Texas today.

Austin pretty much shut down for the day today. The freezing temperatures, sleet and (a little) snow iced-over roads throughout Central Texas – and even closed a few – leading the Austin Police Department to ask drivers to stay off the roads, giving them (more or less) a snow day.

Here’s a look around town from our photographers, who ventured out into the cold.

There was next to no traffic on I-35 through South Austin this morning. The Austin Police Department advised drivers to avoid the roads unless it was an "absolute emergency."

Runners along the trail braved the cold and wind, which felt as low as the teens with a wind chill.
