What's Open, What's Closed and What's Going on to Honor Veterans

Today is Veterans Day, and with that in mind we've got a rundown of all the parades, speeches and other events to honor Central Texas veterans in Austin, Georgetown and San Marcos.

Veterans Day 2013: What's Open, What's Closed and What's Going On

Most city offices are closed Monday for Veterans Day.

Veterans Day Parade:

Travis County and the City of Austin are holding the annual Veterans Day Parade on Monday to honor service men and women.

The Grand Marshal of this year’s commemoration and parade is Austinite Richard Arvine Overton, who, at age 107, is the oldest living World War II veteran in the United States.

Austin PRIDE Weekend Outlook

“YOUnify and Celebrate” is the tagline for this year’s Austin PRIDE day—an opportunity to support and connect the area’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community.

Events include a parade and a festival that features what organizers call an unparalleled lineup of live music acts.

The Austin PRIDE celebration is in its 21st year. Austin PRIDE President Paul Huddleston says the festival keeps getting bigger and that they’ve sold tickets to people from 28 states and 8 countries.

“The festival is for everyone. We’ve got activities and attractions for kids all the way up to the adults," Huddleston says.
