Alamo Bowl Promoted to Top Big 12 Contest

The Alamo Bowl could soon be the biggest game in the Big 12 bowl season under a new six-year deal with the Pac-12 announced Friday.

Next year, top ranked Big 12 and Pac-12 contenders outside the new four-team college football playoff will face off in the bowl game that started in 1993. The Cotton Bowl had previously been the signature game for Big 12 teams that didn't make the Bowl Championship Series.

Big 12 Conference Invites TCU

Texas Christian University has been invited to join the Big 12 Conference.

And the college football conference shuffle continues.

The Big 12 college athletic conference would like Texas Christian University to join them. Presidents and chancellors of the conference's nine remaining member schools formally invited TCU to join this morning. If the school accepts the invitation, they would fill the gap left by the departure of Texas A&M from the Big 12 next summer.

The Horned Frogs currently play in the Mountain West athletic conference. A year ago, the school decided they would leave that conference for the Big East. But in a release on the TCU's athletic website, Chancellor Victor Boschini, Jr. said that joining the Big 12 would rekindle old in-state rivalries with Baylor, Texas Tech and Texas. He says he looks forward to more conversations with the conference before accepting the invitation.

Perry Targets Iowa

Governor Rick Perry will be making numerous campaign stops in Iowa in the next few days. The presidential hopeful entered the race on Saturday, and is now vying against other GOP hopefuls.

KUT's political reporting partner, The Texas Tribune, reports on how Perry is handling his controversial decision in 2007 to mandate that some young girls receive an HPV vaccine.
