Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg pleaded guilty this morning to a Class A misdemeanor for drunk driving.
She was arrested last Friday night after she was reportedly driving erratically. Travis County Sheriff’s officers say they found an open bottle of vodka in her car.
Lehmberg’s attorney David Sheppard said she received, what he called, the “harshest sentence” for the offense. “She accepted the sentence that was determined by the county attorney to be appropriate,” Sheppard said, “a 45 days in jail and a 4 thousand dollar fine and walked into the jail and is in that jail to serve that sentence.”
Lehmberg’s driver’s license has also been suspended for 6 months.
Lehmberg has said she intends to carry on with her responsibilities as the county’s highest legal authority. Her staff is expected to carry on with her duties while she is behind bars as they do when she is on vacation.
