Machete Film Incentives Denied
The Texas Film Commission has denied incentive money for Robert Rodriguez's satirical film Machete. In a letter the Commission said its decision was based on state code that says incentives can be denied if a film has inappropriate content or portrays Texas in a negative light. Our political reporting partner, the Texas Tribune, reported on the controversy surrounding the immigration-related film in September. The denial means creators lost out on an estimated million dollars plus. The film incentives were designed to encourage movie makers to shoot in Texas.
Imagine Austin Survey Deadline Friday
What do you want Austin to look like 10, 15 years down the road? Tomorrow is the last day you can give your input on the City of Austin's comprehensive plan. The "blueprint" will guide the city's future decisions on issues such as development, transit, roads and parks. You can give your input and take the survey here. This morning KUT's Matt Largey reported some neighborhood groups are worried the comprehensive plan will override the work they've put into their smaller neighborhood plans. Hear that story below.
Texas Volleyball vs. Illinois at Regionals
Forget about football, the ninth-seeded Texas Longhorn volleyball team is making its fifth-straight NCAA Regional appearance this weekend. UT's hosting the Austin Regional of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. Florida will play Purdue on Friday, followed by Texas and Illinois. The winners will play Saturday for a spot in the semifinals. Players will be practicing hard today and those practices are open to fans.
