The City of Austin is having a birthday today.
It's one of the hardest anniversaries to pronounce – it's not a centennial or a bicentennial — or even a sesquicentennial, for that matter. But, outgoing Mayor Lee Leffingwell made it his mission earlier this year to memorize a 28-letter word used for the city’s 175th anniversary: a septaquintaquinquecentennial.
To commemorate the celebration, KUT’s Joy Diaz challenged Leffingwell and outgoing Austin City Council Member Laura Morrison to a City of Austin trivia game, and Austin History Center Director Mike Miller cooked up a quiz to test their knowledge of Austin history. Below, you can take the Austin trivia challenge, and listen to Leffingwell and Morrison's answers to Miller's quiz.
Take a listen to Leffingwell and Morrison's answers below to see how they fared on Miller's quiz, and feel free to suggest more Austin trivia questions by emailing submissions to news@kut.org.
