Libyan Rebels Enter Tripoli
The 42-year reign of Moammar Gadhafi may be in its final hours today, as rebel troops flowed into Tripoli, Libya Sunday and early this morning. NPR reports that scattered opposition forces are trying to maintain the capital city, as fighting between them and forces loyal to Gadhafi continues in some parts. No one seems to know where Gadhafi is, but two of his sons have reportedly been captured by rebel soldiers.
Back to School Today
The school bell rings today for many Central Texas. Austin and about a half-dozen other districts open classrooms this morning. Pflugerville and Round Rock ISD students begin the school year tomorrow. Austin Police are stepping up enforcement in school zones around town today, looking for speeders and people using cell phones in designated school zones. Meanwhile, Austin ISD trustees are expected to adopt the budget for the new school year at tonight's meeting.
Two Texans Battle for GOP Nod
Many people around the country know that Texas Governor Rick Perry is seeking the Republican nomination for president next year. But not a lot of attention has been focused on the other Texan in the GOP race, Lake Jackson Congressman Ron Paul. For KUT News and the Texas Tribune, Ben Philpott reports on the race within Texas between the relative newcomer Perry and Paul, who's in his second GOP presidential race.
