Help StoryCorps Share Your Story for Generations to Come

KUT has brought the StoryCorps Mobile Booth to Austin, and from Jan. 5 through Jan. 30, you and a loved one are invited to record your story.

The trailer is parked in front of the Bob Bullock Museum and our second round of reservations filled up in just minutes.  You can get on a wait list for possible cancellations by visiting the StoryCorps reservation website.

StoryCorps is a nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate the lives of everyday Americans by listening to their stories. StoryCorps’ records stories in its MobileBooth — an Airstream trailer outfitted with a studio.

StoryCorps’ MobileBooth interviews are conducted between two people who know and care about each other. A trained StoryCorps facilitator guides participants through the interview process. At the end of each 40-minute recording session, participants receive a complimentary CD copy of their interview. With participant permission, a second copy is archived at the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind, and millions listen to the weekly broadcasts on NPR’s “Morning Edition.” Visit Story Corps to hear sample interviews.

With participant permission, KUT 90.5 may air segments of some local interviews recorded in the StoryCorps MobileBooth. Segments of select interviews may air nationally on NPR’s Morning Edition, as well.

StoryCorps provides people of all backgrounds and beliefs with the opportunity to record, share and preserve the stories of our lives. We do this to remind one another of our shared humanity, to strengthen and build the connections between people, to teach the value of listening, and to weave into the fabric of our culture the understanding that everyone’s story matters.

Special thanks go to Belmont Village – West Lake Hills for sponsoring the StoryCorps Austin visit.
