Manny Diaz is the third coach hired this year as the Longhorns rebuild their staff

The University confirmed late Wednesday evening that Manny Diaz will take over as defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns.  Diaz is leaving the same post at Mississippi State.  Diaz was in Austin yesterday with his wife interviewing for the position.

At only 36, Diaz is considered one of the leading young defensive minds in college football (notably, Will Muschamp, Texas' former defensive coordinator and new Florida head football coach was similarly characterized when Mack Brown hired him as defensive coordinator three years ago).  Diaz spent four years at Middle Tennessee State before joining Mississippi State as the defensive coordinator last year.

Diaz is the third coaching hire this offseason.  Mack Brown and company still need to fill vacancies at offensive coordinator, offensive line coach, and assistant athletics director for football operations.
