Austin City Council members are voting on some big items today.
- This morning the Austin City Council approved $120 million to plan a new Central library on Cesar Chavez, by the old Seaholm Power Plant. City officials envision it being "architecturally unique" and an anchor for new development there. Construction is still years away.
The city is also going to vote on some housing projects later this afternoon. One is to provide loans to developers for permanent supportive housing at the Marshall Arms apartments in East Austin. These would be units for people transitioning out of homelessness. As KUT's Mose Buchele has reported, the city has got some pushback on that plan.
The Austin City Council is expected to approve $1.25 million today to build the Westgate Grove subdivision in Southwest Austin. It'll have 50 single family homes. Some will have attached condo units reserved for elderly people. KUT's Erika Aguilar has more details here.
