As the Texas Forest Servicefights ten major wildfires covering more than half-a-million acres, the Central Texas Boy Scouts have ordered a burn ban at all seven of its camping properties. Those are Lost Pines Boy Scout Camp and Cub World near Bastrop, Griffith League Scout Ranch near Bastrop, Camp Green Dickson near Gonzales, Camp Alma McHenry near Giddings, Roy D. Rivers Wilderness Camp near Smithville and Wolf Mountain Scout Ranch near Llano.

The City of Austin has already imposed a ban on grilling and smoking cigarettes in city parks. But fire officials are still concerned about homeowners and apartment dwellers barbequing next to local greenbelts, something they cannot restrict.

Of the 254 counties in Texas, 212 have burn bans in effect, including all counties in Central Texas.
