Sixth Street: Placid by day, but party central for Austin's Mardi Gras celebration this weekend

Here comes Mardi Gras weekend in Austin...and here comes Austin's police department to keep an eye on crowds along 6th Street, taking part in the pre-Lenten festivities.

As part of the festivities Saturday and Tuesday nights, police will be barricading several streets, to allow pedestrians a chance to roam from party to party on foot.  The biggest closure will be East 6th, itself, between San Marcos and Brazos Streets.  Here's APD's map of closures slated for Saturday and Tuesday nights:

Also be aware that police will hold another "no refusal" DWI enforcement period during the Mardi Gras celebrations.
