The Black Heritage Network

On this edition of In Black America, producer/host John L. Hanson Jr. speaks with Hezekiah Lewis, President and CEO with the Black Heritage Network.

Founded in 2010, BHN.TV brings its viewers quality, relevant programming that reflects the African American experience. The founders believe that it was time to step up and create one TV channel whose single mission is to be the first and only full-time television destination for the real stories of African American  life in America. They believe that African American heritage is American heritage.

Hezekiah Lewis is an Associate Professor of Communications at Villanova University  and was recently appointed President and CEO with the Black Heritage Network. Along with his leadership, BHN expect to develop a formal relationship with the University and its School of Communications, including an operating home for BHN.TV, an internship program, and producing television programs at Villanova’s brand new production facility.

BHN is a channel for all Americans and the world. BHN contributes 5% of all monthly and annual subscription revenue to the United Negro College Fund. Subscribing to BHN helps support Black heritage at HBCUs as well as a unique home for Black heritage on television. BHN is the first and only true to life non-fiction network devoted exclusively to African American achievement in American life. Also they feature classic Black films, and powerful documentaries.

John L. Hanson is the producer and host of the nationally syndicated radio series In Black America. It’s heard on home station KUT at 10 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 a.m. Sundays — and weekly on close to 20 stations across the country. The weekly podcast of IBA, the only nationally broadcast Black-oriented public affairs radio program, is one of KUT’s most popular podcasts.
