Alleged Fort Hood Shooter Returns to Court Today, Seeks Trial Delay
Military judge Col. Tara Osborn is expected to hear pretrial motions for a continuance until this fall. Just three weeks before standing in trial, Hasan is asking that his trial to be delayed until September 1. Right now, the selected jury is set to start May 29 and the testimony is scheduled to begin July 1.
At today's hearing, Col. Osborn may also announce decisions on issues litigated at past hearings. Including, perhaps, whether Maj. Hasan's relatives will be compelled to testify.
Today's pretrial is set to start at 10 a.m. at the Lawrence J. Williams Judicial Center in Fort Hood.
Hasan is facing 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder in the Nov. 5, 2009 incident. If convicted, the Army psychiatrist could face the death penalty or life in prison.
