It doesn't have the same ring as, say, "Christmas Eve." But that's the feeling before voters pass judgment on a a person's candidacy, a district's bond proposal or other local issue. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, the day before Mother's Day. (If you're playing along with the home version of the game, the runoffs would be June 14th, the day before Father's Day.)
Early voter turnout turned out to be about 3.5% in Travis County. For those truly into numbers or the truly lonely, Burnt Orange Report has you covered.
More numbers, more often: Daily Kos has a new poll by Research 2000 on the Senate race between John Cornyn and Rick Noriega. So, what size coattails do you wear?

The ballyhoo, brawling and banter about pandering start winding down in the local elections. Election Day is tomorrow. Follow the link lower on this page to find your polling station, if you didn't vote early. Three Austin City Council races, several local school board races, bonds for A.I.S.D. and the City of Pflugerville, an proposal to annex the Round Rock I.S.D. into the Austin Community College district all dot the ballot. But last weekend's "robocall" controversy may not be over for Council Member Jennifer Kim and her political consultants, reports the Austin Chronicle. Several observers are seizing on reports that State Sen. Florence Shapiro (R-Plano) is considering a run for the U.S. Senate in 2010. But a lot of dominos have to fall before we would start seeing "Shapiro for U.S. Senate" signs.
May is Latino Music Month, and this weekend, las mujeres step up to the mic to show how Latinas rock the house. The Austin Latino Music Association has teamed up with the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau to present a variety of showcases throughout May to raise awareness of all brands of Latino music, and its many contributions to the Live Music Capital of the World. Rhett Miller was traveling light when he stopped by our studio during SXSW. He left the rest of the band at the hotel and came in with only one guitar. But Rhett's stellar guitar work and emotive vocals stand alone. Rhett also talks about how life is different now that he is an established musician. The Old 97's play at 5pm Friday May 16th at Waterloo Records.
