MUSIC SCENE

It’s no accident that Austin is the live music capital of the world! With roughly 120 live music venues and about thousands of musicians in residence, live music is our soundtrack: in the airport, the grocery store, the park, and the corner taco joint.

Austin is music. Our city moves to the beat of rock, country, tejano, blues, jazz, and more.

This list of resources will be helpful to musicians and music lovers, to hometown heroes and visitors. Browse around and let the Austin music spirit get a grip on you. And don’t miss the excellent maps of two neighborhoods know for keepin’ things rocking: Sixth Street and the Warehouse District.

Music Austin - An indie production by a lone non-musician, Music Austin is an attempt to accumulate an encyclopedia of the Austin music scene. Says, Music Austin’s founder, “Living in Austin is made better because it is possible to find a place any night of the week that offers up often good, sometimes great, and always heartfelt live music.”

Texas Music Office - The Texas Music Office serves as the information clearinghouse and promotional center for the Texas music industry. It’s a wonderful resource for musicians and non-musicians.

Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau Music Office - Tips on where to hear live music, how to hire a musician, the city’s entertainment districts, Austin nightlife, music organizations, and more.

The Austin Chronicle Online - This site contains current and archived issues of the Austin Chronicle, documenting the evolution of Austin’s music scene, music listings, live music venue guide, and record reviews.

Musician’s Register - This link is the URL for the Chronicle’s Musicians’ Register, an informative list of local musicians.

Austin Links’ Music Page Wow - This site has everything you need to become acquainted, or reacquainted, with Austin music: links to artists’ web sites, venues, photos, and more.

The Austin Music Foundation - The Austin Music Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides programs and services dedicated to the education, development and advancement of musicians, and the creation and preservation of Austin’s unique musical heritage.
