Super Bowl XLV's Local Flavor

Cowboys stadium will host Super Bowl XLV this Sunday, February 6.

This Sunday's Super Bowl will showcase two of the league's premier quarterbacks: Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh's two-time champion Ben Roethlisberger. But along with that, Super Bowl XLV will also feature former Texas Longhorns and players who made names for themselves in the Lone Star State. Sunday's big game, played in Dallas Cowboys Stadium (or "Jerry World", as some people refer to it) will be a homecoming for some of the players.

24-7 Longhorns, Coming To A TV Near You

The University of Texas and sports programming giant ESPN have struck a deal that will create a 24-hour TV network that's all UT, all the time.  The network will include more than just sports.

ESPN will pay the university $300 million over the next 20 years in exchange for the rights to provide programming for the cable network.  In addition to sports, the network will air some academic and cultural programming - like musical performances - that originate on the UT campus.

At a news conference set for noon today, Mack Brown will announce that former Boise State offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin and current UT running backs coach Major Applewhite will share offensive coordinator duties for the Horns next year.  Harsin will take over play-calling duties.

Dennis Franchione 2011 Texas State Head Football Coach

Dennis Franchione Left His Last Coaching Job at Texas A&M in 2007

Texas State has hired Dennis Franchione as its next head football coach.  Franchione has been out of the game for three years. His last coaching position was as head coach at Texas A&M.  Before that, Franchione spent time at Alabama and TCU.  Texas State’s former head coach, Brad Wright, was fired on November 22nd.

Diaz Is New D-Coordinator

The University confirmed late Wednesday evening that Manny Diaz will take over as defensive coordinator for the Texas Longhorns.  Diaz is leaving the same post at Mississippi State.  Diaz was in Austin yesterday with his wife interviewing for the position.

Report: Wisconsin's Chryst Offered Offensive Coordinator Job

According to published reports from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and others, current University of Wisconsin offensive coordinator, Paul Chryst, has been offered the same position at Texas. 

The 45 year-old Wisconsin native and UW graduate would reportedly receive a steep salary increase if he joins the UT coaching staff.  Mack Brown and Texas are reportedly able to offer $1 million.  Chryst’s current annual compensation package is $361,094.

Construction Begins On Austin's Formula One Site

Heavy machinery is breaking ground on a plot of land near the airport that will soon host F1 racers from around the world. AutoSport.com reports that race promoter Tavo Hellmund was there yesterday to oversee the official groundbreaking.

At a time when the Texas Longhorns football team is usually gearing up for a major bowl game, this year's post-season has been one of sudden change for the team.

Junior cornerback Aaron Williams has declared himself eligible for next April's NFL Draft.  Williams earned second-team All-Big-12 honors, after an impressive season of 46 tackles, one quarterback sack and five tackles for yardage losses.  He also forced opponents to turn the football over three times in 2010.

Longhorns Hire New O-Line Coach

The job of rebuilding the Texas Longhorns' football coaching staff may be getting underway.

Chip Brown of orangebloods.com is reporting that former Florida offensive line coach Steve Addazzio has been hired as the Longhorns’ new offensive line coach.  Addazzio would take over for Mac McWhorter, who retired on December 6th.

Sources: Austin Headed to Austin

Multiple sources have indicated to orangebloods.com as well as hookem.com that former University of Florida football defensive coordinator, Teryl Austin, will take over the recently vacated defensive coordinator position at UT.  If hired, Austin would take over for Will Muschamp, who accepted the head coach position at the University of Florida on Saturday.

Thousands Will Rally At UT Tower Tonight to "Hex" Aggies

University of Texas football loyalists will gather in burnt orange tonight for a mega-pep rally aimed at cursing their fierce rivals, Texas A&M University. The "Hex Rally", as it is known, is a 25 year tradition held before the customary Thanksgiving Day game between UT and A&M.
