The University of Texas at Austin is moving forward with its plan to replace the Frank Erwin Center, but with a twist. The university is seeking bids for a private company to build and operate an arena and training facility. It would, theoretically, be done with “minimal financial outlay” from UT.

The new arena would be home to the Longhorn basketball teams, but would also host concerts and events, as the Erwin Center does now.

UT Men’s Basketball team lost their opening game in the College Basketball Invitational against Houston last night. The Texas basketball season had already come to an end for the Horns without making it to the NCAA playoffs - their first shut out since the 1997-98 season.

Houston Cougars’s Daniel House set the final score to 73-72 after a mid-range jump shot with only 17 seconds left.

The defending champion Baylor women’s basketball team is again the No. 1 overall seed in the women’s NCAA tournament.

The first game for the Lady Bears is Sunday against No. 16 seed Prairie View A&M.

The Pedernales Electric Cooperative has a new CEO.  The Board Monday named R.B. Sloan, Jr. of Virginia to run the Co-op.  PEC says Sloan has worked in the utility industry for nearly 40 years.  He'll take over on March 6th.   Former PEC chief Bennie Fuelberg was sentenced to jail time earlier this month after being convicted of felony theft, money laundering and misappropriation of fiduciary property.
