Texas voters headed to the polls today in the nation’s first primary election since Donald Trump was elected president. Turnout has been higher this election, compared to the last midterm primary in 2014 ­– especially among those voting in the Democratic primary. High-profile Texas Republicans – including incumbents Gov. Greg Abbott and Sen. Ted Cruz – have suggested that turnout could translate into more momentum on that side heading into November.

Watch Funeral of APD Officer Live Online

Senior Police Officer Jaime Padron will remembered today in a service at Shoreline Church at 15201 Burnet Road. The public is invited to pay their respects.

For those who cannot attend, the funeral will be available to watch online on the church's website.

Immediately following the service, the congregation will exit the church and attend a police ceremony on the lawn which will include a police air unit flyover and a final radio call.

Padron's body will then be taken to San Angelo for burial.

Drivers should expect delays this afternoon along the procession route. It will start at the church then head down I-35 southbound from the Highway 45 Frontage Road to 290 West out of the city towards San Angelo.

Officer Padron was killed while responding to an early-morning call of an intoxicated person on Friday. He is the first APD officer killed in the line of duty since 2004.

The man accused of shooting him is facing a capital murder charge.
