Volunteers Needed Next Month To Help Clean Up The City

Record breaking numbers of music fans swarmed the city for South by Southwest over the last few days, leaving behind a trail of beer cans and empty potato chip bags.  Keep Austin Beautiful is now trying to convince 4,000 people to help clean up anything still on the ground by Saturday, April 9.

"It's all of our jobs to really keep our city clean," Keep Austin Beautiful executive director Rodney Ahart told KUT News. "Yes, our city does an outstanding job of maintaining a lot of our public spaces, but I think we all have a responsibility to do what we can."

Ahart says 2,600 volunteers have already signed up on their website to work from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at one of 129 sites across the city. Ahart says they would like 1,400 more people to volunteer.

Immediately after the cleanup, Keep Austin Beautiful is sponsoring a party in Waterloo Park with free lunch and live music for volunteers.

Go here to sign up, or you could start by checking out some of the work sites across the city.
