Updated: Brush Fire in Far Western Travis County

This is the area where the fire occured.

Update at 9:02 a.m. Evacuated residents from the Belvedere subdivision were scheduled to be allowed back into their homes at 9 a.m. morning. About 30 homes were evacuated.

The fire is 80 percent contained, according to  Lake Travis Fire Rescue assistant chief John Dunham.

"Probably on this kind of fire you won't ever get an incident commander to tell you anything over 90 percent," Dunham said, saying fire fighters want to be extra careful given the exceptionally dry conditions.

Fire crews will survey the area over the next couple days to make sure smoldering embers don't re-ignite the wildfire.

Update at 8:57 p.m. Crews continue to make progress fighting a wildfire off Hamilton Pool Road in western Travis County. Although it is still only 50 percent contained, the flames have not spread over the past few hours.

"I don't think we're seeing any considerable growth over the 600 acres now,"  Lake Travis Fire Rescue assistant chief John Dunham told KUT News.

Firefighters with the Texas Forest Service are using bulldozers and controlled burning to create a perimeter around the brush fire with the goal of preventing it from spreading further.

"It's just now down to getting it within that perimeter," Dunham said.

However, it may still be "several hours" before evacuated residents are allowed to return to their homes. People in the nearby Belvedere subdivision were moved to a community center located in the subdivision. The Red Cross is helping the evacuees.

Two fire fighters suffered minor injuries. They refused medical transport and were treated on the scene. One suffered an injured back, while the other twisted an ankle.

One civilian sustained minor burn wounds.

The fire began shortly after 2 p.m. Fire fighters believe it was caused by someone welding outside. They have labeled it the Magnolia Fire, because it started at a construction site at Magnolia Ridge Cove, just off Hamilton Pool Road.
