Travis County Gets $205 Million in Bond Project Proposals

People in charge of recommending bond-funded improvements to Travis County infrastructure like roads and parks have slashed their original recommendation from 120 projects to 36. But they still couldn't bring the price tag down to the $150 million county commissioners had requested.

The county's 2011 Citizens Bond Advisory Committee submitted its finalized list of recommendations today. The total cost would be $205 million.

“The committee felt like they couldn’t cut anymore,” said Carol Joseph with Travis County's Transportation and Natural Resources Department. “They re-scoped projects… they did whatever they could.”

The projects approved by the court will be put to voters in a bond election.

The proposals range from land development to widening of roads to bridge and sidewalk improvements. There are also recommendations for recreational improvements and flood plans in some parts of Travis County.

Now that the final list is public, there will be a series of public hearings. The first one is next Tuesday.
