Planning the Future of Buda

The City of Buda, just south of Austin in Hays County, is growing fast.  City officials are looking for input on Buda’s long range comprehensive plan.    Think of it as a “blue print” for the future of the city.  People can give their input at a public workshop tonightat Buda Elementary starting at six thirty. 

Domestic Violence Shelter Full

The SafePlace shelter in Austin for victims of domestic abuse is full, according to KXAN TV.  KXAN reports shelters in nearby counties are also at capacity.  SafePlace counselors are having to give priority to the most critical calls, others are given safety planning and directed to other resources.

Parks Board Takes Up Disc Golf Tonight

Tonight at six at City Hall, the Austin Parks and Recreation Boardwill hear about plans to install a new disc golf course next to Roy Guerrero Colorado River Park in southeast Austin.  The Parks Department recommends the plan, but some people in the neighborhood around the park and some disc golfers oppose it.  The disc golf course at Pease Park is closing at the end of the year.

Red Flag Warning

It’s breezy and very dry in Central Texas.  The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warninguntil eight tonight.  Any fires that start under these weather conditions would be hard to control.  Also       

Also keep in mind an area-wide freeze is expected tonight.  From News 8 Meteorologist Burton Fitzsimmons:

As winds subside after sunset, temps will begin to drop like a rock.  We'll try again tonight for our first fall freeze in metro Austin.  If anything, it would be a brief, light freeze in the city.  Meanwhile, a range of 20s in suburban, rural, and Hill Co. locales means a hard freeze possible for several hours.  Protect your property, pets, and plants!
