Officer-Involved Shooting in Austin

The Austin Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened late last night.  Police say drivers should expect detours or delays at 8th Street and the I-35 frontage road. 

Police Chief Art Acevedo says two officers on bike patrol were looking for men suspected of trying to steal vehicles.  A car with two suspects in it struck and injured one officer. The other officer fired shots at the car. One suspect was found dead and another was arrested.  Chief Acevedo says there was no video of the incident because the officers were on bikes.

Special Legislative Session Starts Today

The Texas Legislature ended the regular 82nd legislative session Monday, but Governor Rick Perry called lawmakers back to work for a special session. Lawmakers are going to have to tackle school finance after they couldn't reach consensus over the Memorial Day weekend. A Senate filibuster killed a bill that would have helped balance the state's budget and cut $4 billion in public education funding. 

Former Gov. Clements' Funeral

Funeral services will be held Thursday for former Governor William “Bill” Clements.  He passed away Sunday at the age of 94.  A memorial service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas Thursday afternoon.  A private burial will be held before the service.

UT Baseball Earns No. 7 Seed

The Texas Longhorns baseball team has been named the No. 7 national seed for the NCAA Division 1 Baseball Championship.  Texas will play Princeton Friday in a regional UT’s hosting at Disch-Falk Field.  The winner of the Austin Regional will face the winner of the Tempe Regional for a chance to play in the College World Series.
