AISD To Discuss Facility Master Plan

The Austin Independent School District’s Board is meeting tonight to discuss its Facility Master Plan. The plan is a ten year roadmap for AISD to manage its campuses and other buildings to be more efficient and to save money.

The most controversial part of the plan is an option for AISD to close nine schools.  Superintendent Meria Carstarphen has vowed not to close any campuses before 2013.  Tonight’s board discussion starts at six.  No action will be taken.

Watch Your Water

We may have received some rain last week but stage 1 water restrictions are in effect in Austin.  That means homeowners can only water their lawns twice a week.  Those with odd addresses can water on Wednesdays and Saturdays, people with even addresses are allowed to water on Thursdays and Sundays.  Sprinklers can't be used between 10 am and 7 pm  Those caught breaking the rules could face a fine of up to $500.

Shooting on Sixth Street This Weekend

Four people were shot early Sunday near Sixth Street and Sabine.  The injuries were not life threatening.  The Austin American-Statesman reports three people were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge.  A fourth person took himself to St. David's Medical Center. Police say the incident may have been gang related.  No suspect is in custody.
