UT Women's Basketball in Big 12 Quarterfinals

The Texas women's basketball team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship.  The seventh seeded Longhorns beat Missouri 79-66 yesterdayin the opening round.  Five players scored in the double figures.  The Horns will take on Texas A&M in the quarterfinals this evening.

Travis County Extends Burn Ban

Travis County Commissioners voted yesterday to extend the county's burn ban.  High fire danger conditions are forecast today for western Travis County.  Warm temperatures, low humidity and windy conditions mean any fire started outside would spread rapidly.  Just how fast? The Texas Forest Service says fires could move through grass and brush at 4 mph, the equivalent of about one football field per minute.

Texas Wildflower Season Start Not as Colorful This Year

This year's early spring wildflowers will not be as impressive as last year's display, according to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. That's because of the lack of rainfall in many parts of Texas last fall. The recent cold weather snaps in many areas may also contribute to fewer wildflowers blooming early in the season.
