Early Voting Begins for Shade, Tovo Runoff

Early voting starts today for the runoff election for Austin City Council Place Three.  The runoff is between incumbent Randi Shade and challenger Kathie Tovo.  In May’s regular election, Tovo got 46 percent of the vote, and Shade got 33 percent.  Early voting runs through June 14. Election Day is June 18.  Find Travis County early voting sites here. HIV/AIDS Town Hall Meeting

A town hall meeting is being held tonight to discuss an anti-HIV strategy for Central Texas.  The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department, the Austin Area Comprehensive HIV Planning Council, and a steering committee of HIV/AIDS professionals are looking for public input on how to spend funds to prevent HIV and to help those already infected. 

The town hall meeting is open to people who live in Travis, Williamson, Hays, Caldwell and Bastrop Counties.  It's from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rosewood-Zaragosa Neighborhood Center. 

Hamilton Pool Brush Fire

KVUE is reporting a brush fire in Western Travis County near Hamilton Pool Sunday has been contained.

Starflight had to make several water drops to help crews on the ground. More than 25 acres, or about a half square mile has been charred. The fire was contained in a valley of a ranch.  No homes or structures were threatened.  

Texas Beats Kent State

The Texas Longhorn baseball team stayed alive by avoiding elimination in the NCAA Austin Regional last night.  Texas beat Kent State 9-3, forcing a championship game. The two teams play again today starting at 1 p.m. at Disch-Falk Field.  The winner of the Austin Regional will face Arizona State, the winner of the Tempe Regional, for a chance to play in the College World Series.
