Pentagon Papers Being Released Today
The Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum at UT is one of a handful of libraries across the country releasing a complete set of the Pentagon Papers today. The release comes 40 years after The New York Times published leaked parts of the report. The Pentagon Papers include 7,000 pages of a top secret federal government study on the Vietnam War.

LBJ Library Director Mark Updegrove participated in the effort to open these historical documents. "Now, for the first time, we can read the report as it was written," said Updegrove. "Perhaps no 'smoking gun' will be found in this 7,000-page report, but it will undoubtedly contribute to our greater understanding of this conflict. When the LBJ Library was dedicated, just weeks before the leak of the Pentagon Papers, President Johnson said, 'It is all here: the story of our time—with the bark off.' And he committed the Library to opening materials as quickly and as fully as possible. He might be a little surprised that it has taken 40 years to get this report fully declassified, but I am sure he would be happy that it has finally come to pass."
Senate Taking Testimony on Immigration Bill
The Senate Transportation and Homeland Security Committee is holding apublic hearingat 9 a.m. on a controversial immigration bill. It includes the sanctuary cities legislation that would prohibit cities from preventing local law enforcement officers from being able to question people about their immigration status. The special legislative session was started to work on the state’s budget for the next two years. Gov. Rick Perry added immigration legislation to the call.
Early Voting Ends Tomorrow
Tomorrow is the last day of early voting for the Austin City Council Place 3 runoff. The candidates are incumbent Randi Shade and challenger Kathie Tovo. So far 4.19 percent of registered voters in Travis County have cast an early ballot. Election day is Saturday, June 18th. On that day registered voters may only vote at their assigned precincts.
Longhorns Headed to College World Series
TheTexas Longhorn baseball team beat Arizona State Sunday 4-2 in a best-of-three series of the Austin Super Regional. This is the 34th time the Horns have earned a College World Series berth- that's an NCAA record. UT will play the Florida Gators on Saturday.
