The Chronicle of Higher Education has released a report on the compensation that higher education leaders, and the University of Texas ranks very high.
According to the report released this morning, UT System Chancellor Francisco Cigarroa received $750,000 in annual compensation, not including $63,892 that the state kicks in for retirement for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. That puts Cigarroa second on the overall list. Over the same period, UT-Austin President William Powers, Jr. ranked third, getting a base salary of $600,600, plus deferred compensation of $146,138 for a grand total of $746,738.
But both Cigarroa and Powers are well behind the best-paid on the list: Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee received over $1.3 million in compensation for the '09-'10 fiscal year.
