We speak with Director Jessica Edwards just before she walks the red carpet for her film's premiere at The Paramount. MAVIS! is a music documentary about the legendary Mavis Staples, who continues to make music today at the age of 75. We chat with Steven Piet and Erik Crary about their film Uncle John, a haunting tale of a small town disappearance and an unsuspecting character named John. We meet director Josh Bishop of Made in Japan and the subject of his film Tomi Fujiyama, the first Japanese country artist. Fujiyama even shares one of her favorite country tunes for our small studio audience. Rounding out the hour, we have a conversation with Theory of Obscurity director Don Hardy about his film about the band The Residents. Joining him is Homer Flynn, spokesperson for the The Residents and rumored founder and lead singer.
