You probably didn't feel it, but it was a little cooler in Austin yesterday. The high of 99 degrees at Camp Mabry broke a two-week stringof triple-digit temperatures. But the break's over, with temperatures expected to cruise back to the 100-degree mark.

F1 Committee Speeds Up Race Progress

The Circuit Events Local Organizing Committee (CELOC) met Saturday. The group agreedto a series of motions that would start money flowing toward the US Formula One Grand Prix scheduled for next June southeast of Austin. Board members moved forward on negotiations with the state comptroller's office to secure $250 million in support over the next 10 years.

US Senate Race Expected to Heat Up This Week

Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst is expected to officially join the GOP racefor the US Senate this week. He would be joining a field that already includes Railroad Commission Chair Elizabeth Ames Jones, former Dallas mayor Tom Leppert and former Texas Solicitor General Ted Cruz. In the early money race, Cruz has raised the most campaign cash, while Leppert has the most in the bank.

US, Japan Vie for Women's World Cup

The United States and Japan have the two best women's soccer teams in the world this year. Today, the two teams decide which one is the very best, when they meet for the FIFA Women's World Cupin Frankfurt, Germany. The Americans, who've won the Cup twice, are making their first trip to the finals since 1999; Japan is making its first-ever finals appearance.
