Students Speak: What It's Like to Attend Austin's All-Boys Middle School

This fall, Austin ISD opened its first all-boys school in Northeast Austin called Gus Garcia Young Men's Leadership Academy. It's paired with a sister school, Bertha Sadler Means Young Women's Leadership Academy.

The district turned the schools into single-sex campusesto improve them after years of academic failure at both campuses.

KUT has been checking in periodically to see how it’s going as part of our series called Gender Divide.

So far, Garcia's Principal Sterlin McGruder says things are going great. Teachers say they are happier — especially compared to years past.

But how do the students feel?

Four young men from Garcia Middle School visited KUT studios to share their thoughts. Listen below:
