The City of Round Rock has named Tim Ryle as its new police chief. Ryle was serving as assistant chief under Bryan Williams. Last week, chief Williams was promoted to assistant city manager, so Ryle will take his post.

Here’s the news release from the City of Round Rock:

Round Rock City Manager Steve Norwood announced he has promoted Assistant Police Chief Tim Ryle to Police Chief, effective Monday, Nov. 7. Ryle will replace Bryan Williams, who was recently promoted to Assistant City Manager. “Tim has been with the city for many years and has risen through the ranks, and at each step made a lasting impression,” Norwood said. “He is one of the most dedicated, loyal and committed employees the City of Round Rock has, and will definitely continue the great progress and success of the Round Rock Police Department.” Chief Ryle has served under four different police chiefs during his 28 years as a member of the Round Rock Police Department. He joined the Department in 1983 after a stint at the Luling Police Department. He was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in Round Rock within two years. Subsequently, he became a lieutenant over Narcotics and SWAT. Prior to being named Assistant Chief in 2007, he was Patrol Captain. “I’m both proud and humbled to be promoted to Police Chief,” Ryle said. “I love this City and I love this department, and look forward to continuing to serve both. Bryan Williams helped take this department to the next level during his tenure as chief, and I intend to build on the many successes we achieved under his leadership.”   Ryle earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Mountain State University. He is a graduate of the Command College at Sam Houston State University and holds a Master Peace Officer’s certification from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. In 2004, he received the City of Round Rock’s first Exemplary Leadership Citation. A native Texan, Ryle is a third-generation police officer.
