PolitiFact: Low Voter Turnout Among Latinos in '08 Election

KUT News

On Comedy Central’s “Colbert Report,” a political adviser said improvements in voter registration and turnout could help Democrats win statewide in what has long been Republican-leaning Texas.

The adviser also made a claim about Latino turnout in the state’s 2008 elections.

KUT’s Emily Donahue spoke with Gardner Selby of the Austin American-Statesman’s Poltifact Texas reporting team. They talked about the comments of Jeremy Bird, senior adviser to Battleground Texas, this new pro-Democratic group. He was asked by Stephen Colbert if the group’s success depends on black and Hispanic voters.

Emily Donahue is a former grants writer for KUT. She previously served as news director and helped launch KUT’s news department in 2001.
