Police Monitor Issues Annual Report

The Austin Police Monitor's office has issued it's annual report. According to a City of Austin news release, the 88-page report shows a six percent decrease in the number of contacts the office had between 2009 and 2010.

Of those contacts, 526 resulted in some form of complaint being filed against one or more members of the Austin Police Department.

The Police Monitor's office is charged with receiving complaints from the public and from department employees about Austin police.

Clifford Brown stepped down as police monitor at the end of 2010 to become a Travis County District Court judge. He was succeeded by former Travis County Sheriff Margo Frasier.

"I said in March that we are committed to timely reporting and transparency, and we are keeping to our pledge," Frasier said in the news release.

Ian Crawford joined KUT as News Editor in 2008, after spending over four years as a reporter/anchor at KLBJ Radio in Austin. He began his broadcasting career while still in high school in Southern Oregon. During high school and college at the University of Oregon, he worked at times as a reporter, news anchor, sports play-by-play reporter, music host and commercial producer before moving to Texas in 2003.
