Governor Rick Perry says he opposes Confederate flag license plates in Texas in a yet-to-be aired interview with a Tampa Bay TV station, the St. Petersburg Times reports.

"We don't need to be scraping old wounds,” Perry reportedly told Bay News 9 in an interview conducted today. The interview is not scheduled to be broadcast until Sunday.

The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles board is still considering whether to issue Confederate flag license plates, after it was petitioned by the Sons of Confederate Veterans. The board is appointed by Governor Perry. A vote could happen as soon as next month. Last week, nineteen state representatives sent a letter to the TxDMV expressing their opposition to the Confederate flag plates.
