People who live in the Dove Springs neighborhood of Austin will now be able to get a range of services at the new Central Health Southeast Health and Wellness Center, a needed addition to a neighborhood that has traditionally had very few nearby options for healthcare.
"The name Southeast Health and Wellness -- the part of wellness is something that Central Health has been very interested in working with this community," says Isaac Pozos with CommunityCare, a Central Health partner.
The center offers primary, mental and dental care, radiology, pharmacy services and even exercise classes for mostly low-income residents.
In 2012, Southeast Travis County was designated as a health professional shortage area by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This 70,000 square-foot center, in what was a VA clinic, is an effort to change that.
