Lost Pets Flood Town Lake Animal Shelter

These are pictures of dogs that the Town Lake Animal Center says were found wet and frightened by concerned people and brought to the shelter today. TLAC says dogs can be easily frightened by thunderstorms and escape their yards. As of noon, 44 dogs and cats had been admitted to the shelter, which is already at capacity.

“This sudden influx has left us in a bit of a scramble," Chief Animal Services Officer Abigail Smith said in an email statement. "We don't want to euthanize animals to make space for dogs and cats that will hopefully only be here a short time before they are reclaimed by their families."

Town Lake Animal Center says it is setting up temporary cages in a conference room to help deal with the influx of lost pets. If you have a lost pet, call 3-1-1 for more information.
