Learn More About Wildfires With These Videos

The developments over the past few days have us a lot more interested in wildfire videos. The Discovery Channel video above explains the three different types of wildfires. Apparently, the most dangerous wildfires are in Australia’s eucalyptus forests, mainly because of that tree’s flammable oils.

This HowStuffWorks videoexplains some of the science behind wildfires.

It can be a little dry at times, but this 2007 Congressional hearing on the interplay between wildfires and global warming is pretty informative. Lawmakers heard testimony to examine how climate change may be increasing the frequency and intensity of wildfires.

Did you know there’s a site called WildfireTube.com? It has all sorts of weird and interesting wildfire videos, including vintage civil defense films from the 50s, 60,s and 70s.  This video explains the history of Smokey the Bear.

This Texas Parks and Wildlife video stands out as one of the more remarkable pieces of online content. It shows how quickly wildfires can spread.  The fire actually moves faster than the progress bar in the YouTube video. Oh yeah, and we can’t ignore this NASA video showing the Texas wildfires from space.

Let us know about any interesting wildfire videos you find by posting them in the comments below.
