KUTX's "Summer Jam 2014" brings the Austin Music Map to life, June 21

Austin, Texas — May 22, 2014 — KUTX 98.9, the Austin Music Experience, will bring the Austin Music Map to life in Austin's 78704 neighborhood next month.

MapJam's "Summer Jam 2014" takes place at Austin Beer Garden Brewing Co. (ABGB) on Saturday, June 21. Keeping with the Austin Music Map tradition of featuring the city's best kept musical secrets, Summer Jam will showcase three very different genres of music: Afro-Latin, Cajun and psych-dub.

"MapJam 2014 was such a success that we asked 'Why should the East Side have all the fun?'," said Haley Howle, MapJam and KUTX producer. "MapJam is all about supporting local music and the local community so we're excited to expand the experience to one of Austin's iconic neighborhoods."

Summer Jam 2014 lineup
3-3:45 p.m.: Gumbo Ce Soir (Cajun)
4-4:45 p.m.: Cilantro Boombox (Afro-Latin), with special guest Gina Chavez
5-5:45 p.m.: Holiday Mountain (psych-dub)

Summer Jam is a scaled-down version of MapJam with all of the performances taking place in one location. With MapJam's emphasis on highlighting the unique spaces where music is made in Austin, Summer Jam takes place in a brewing company, ABGB, which features a stage in the midst of brewing equipment. This is an all-ages event.

Summer Jam will feature a map of the Austin where people can pin their favorite hidden musical spaces in one of the most musical cities in the world. KUTX staff will be on site collecting audio recordings of Austinites talking about their favorite music experiences for possible airplay.

MapJam and Summer Jam are an extension of the Austin Music Map, a web-based, interactive, community documentary project that lets users "play" the city. The map goes beyond the usual suspects on the Austin music scene in search of the not-so-well-known places where music is being made. Explore the map at www.austinmusicmap.com.

The public is encouraged to contribute to the Austin Music Map by tagging their Instagram, photos and videos and SoundCloud audio with #austinmusicmap.

Summer Jam 2014 is made possible thanks to Little Guys Movers.

About the Austin Music Map
Founded in April 2012, KUTX's Austin Music Map is a multimedia documentary project that explores Austin's diverse musical communities. From conjunto at the Moose Lodge to gospel at Deliverance Temple to a renegade marching band floating on Barton Creek, the Austin Music Map documents and celebrates Austin’s musical cultures, exploring what it means to be the Live Music Capital of the World. The Austin Music Map invites the community to participate in this documentation, gathering audio, sound and videos from the public, and asking Austinites to lead us to musical corners of the city we never would have known about before.
