Sen. John Cornyn predicts Texas primaries will be pushed past their current April date.

Sen. John Cornyn suggested yesterday that Texas many not be ready to hold its primaries on April 3.

While the political prognostication isn’t terribly surprising, considering the twists and turns the primary calendar has taken, it does have people wondering when elections will be held in Texas.

Between the lawsuit over redrawn Texas maps appearing before the Supreme Court, and the expectation that a separate D.C. court may offer a decision today on whether those maps meet muster with the Department of Justice, either factor could further delay primary season.

That appears to be Sen. Cornyn’s reason for telling the Associated Press he expects a further delay from April. (Texas primaries usually occur in March.)

No one’s watching for changes more closely than the Texas Secretary of State’s office, which has already had to modify its elections calendar considerably. And with Cornyn’s prediction, it looks like they may have to do so again.
