Hike-and-Bike Trailhead Under MoPac Gets $350,000 Renovation
The most popular entrance for the hike-and-bike trail at Lady Bird Lake is getting a makeover. The Johnson Creek Trailhead, underneath MoPac near Austin High School, will get a wider trail, more blocks of granite for stretching and sitting, several water fountains and a rainwater garden featuring native plants, the Trail Foundation said in a press release.
Construction is supposed to take three to five months, during which the trail will remain open. Check out the rendering above to see what it will look like.
The cost of the upgrade is pegged at $350,000. The biggest donations have come from the Austin Parks Foundation and the Michael and Susan Dell Foundation.
The Trail Foundation is currently trying to raise money for a boardwalk that would connect the trail on the south side of Lady Bird Lake under I-35.
