The James Beard Foundation has announced the semifinalists for its coveted culinary Awards, and six Austin chefs and one new Austin restaurant have earned nods from the prestigious foundation.

Mark Buley and Sam Hellman-Mass of Odd Duck (Rising Star of the Year)

David Bull of Congress (Best Chef: Southwest)

Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue (Best Chef: Southwest)

Bryce Gilmore of Barley Swine (Best Chef: Southwest)

Grae Nonas of Olamaie (Rising Star of the Year)

Olamaie was also nominated for Best New Restaurant.

The James Beard Foundation Awards finalists will be announced on Mar. 24, with awards being given out at Chicago’s Lyric Opera on May 4. While Bryce Gilmore and David Bull are no strangers to nominations, Grae Nonas, Mark Buley, Sam Hellman-Mass and Aaron Franklin all received their first nods from the foundation. Below you can listen to Franklin’s interview with KUT’s Nathan Bernier from last year.
