Groovy: Matt McConaughey Reprises ‘Dazed’ Character in Music Vid

"Dazed and Confused" fans wondering what happened to Matthew McConaughey’s iconic character David Woodersoncan fret no more: Apparently he’s been wandering through some upscale night club in slow-motion.

That’s what’s McConaughey’s character is doing in the clip for “Synthesizers,” a song from Butch Walker and the Black Widows. It seems as if McConaughey’s Camaro-rock character’s been dumped there in countenance to the superficial glam of his surroundings. Or as Walker laments in the song’s opening bars:  "Everybody's writing songs with synthesizers /But I don't have a synthesizer.”

The Washngton Post’s Celebritology blog links approvingly, but Slate contrarily notes “the song that Wooderson unconvincingly lip-syncs to sounds like something that would prompt the fictional character we know and love to switch the radio dial faster than you can say ‘Melba Toast.’” Obviously "Dazed" director Richard Linklater felt differently, as the clip has his "full blessing," according to The Hollywood Reporter.

For more "Dazed" fun, you can listen to Linklatertalk to KUT about the music that informed the film.

Wells has been a part of KUT News since 2012, when he was hired as the station's first online reporter. He's currently the social media host and producer for Texas Standard, KUT's flagship news program. In between those gigs, he served as online editor for KUT, covering news in Austin, Central Texas and beyond.
