Explosives to Bring Down Bridge

Marble Falls EDC/Texas Highways

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning to demolish an old bridge over the Colorado River in Marble Falls.

The span will be replaced by a new one over Lake Marble Falls in that area.

The plan is to use explosives to bring down the old bridge along Highway 281 this Sunday.

When the project is done, there will be two bridges over the lake, with lanes for cars and wide shoulders for walkers and bicyclists.

TxDOT spokesperson Kelli Reyna says the old bridge has had its day.

“This bridge, really, it isn’t in the best of shape. It was built early in the 1930s, and so what we’re trying to do is just enhance the safety of the bridge,” Reyna said.

TxDOT says the public can watch the demolition from Lakeside Park this Sunday morning at 8 o'clock, weather permitting.
