Williamson County is urging some Leander residents to evacuate after a fire broke out near their homes today around noon.

The fire is near the Highlands subdivision, which affects approximately 200 homes. Several area fire departments have been dispatched to the area.According to Connie Watson, Public Affairs Manager of Williamson County, there is a temporary shelter at Leander High School.

“The fire is on approximately 10-acres of land,” said Watson. “I understand that it is in a canyon type environment and they are working to make sure that it stays away from the homes in the Highland subdivision.”

Watson says there haven’t been any indicators as to how the blaze started, but there appeared to be some brush piles in the area that could have caught fire.

There have so far been no reports of injuries or deaths.
