Emerging Artists Get Seven Extra Days To Apply For $65,000 City Contract

Artists have an extra seven days to get their act together and write a proposal to create public art at the new the African-American Cultural & Heritage Facility. The building will be constructed at 912 East 11th Street near Branch Street.

As we reported last month, the City of Austin is looking for an emerging artist who may not have ever been commissioned before to create a public art piece. The January 10 deadline has been extended to January 17.

The city is also hosting another information session for artists wishing to apply. It's from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. this Wednesday, January 5 at The DeWitty Center, Room 213.

The budget for the installation is $65,000, including labor and materials. You can download the application and find out more here. You may also want to check out their selection criteria.
