Daily Buzz at Cannes Episode 16

Daily Buzz Producer, Irene Cho chats with Gerald Duchassoy from the Cannes Classics program on the 4th floor of the Palais Du Festival at the 68th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Often referred to as the cinephile portion of the festival, Cannes Classics was created in 2004 by Thierry Frémaux, the director of the Institut Lumière and of the Cannes Film Festival as part of the transition of 35mm to digital. Dedicated to heritage films, documentaries about cinema and the restoration of prints from around the world, highlights this year included a tribute to Manoel de Oliveira, Centennial Orson Welles (including the documentary, THIS IS ORSON WELLES), an evening with Barbet Schroeder and Cannes Classics at the Cinéma de la Plage. Duchassoy talks about this year’s lineup, why Cannes is where you will see the trends for the year to come, how students can get accredited at the festival as cinephiles and why those people hanging out in front of the Palais du Festival are dressed up in tuxedos and full length gowns.
