Daily Buzz Co-Host, Anderson Le speaks with Korean writer/director Shin Su Won, about her film, MADONNA. The final of 4 Korean films at Cannes this year, other titles include THE SHAMELESS, OFFICE, and COIN LOCKER GIRL. Han Jun hee's COIN LOCKER GIRL was selected to be part of Semaine de la Critique (CRITICS WEEK) while Hong Won Chan's OFFICE played in the Midnight Screening section. Oh Seung Uk's THE SHAMELESS and Shin Su Won's MADONNA were invited to screen in Un Certain Regard. Winner of the Canal Plus Prize for her short film, CIRCLE LINE (2012), Shin returns to Cannes for the 2nd time with MADONNA which focuses on a nurse who works at a VIP ward at a private hospital. Shin was inspired to write this story of redemption and recovery which focuses on discrimination in a post-capitalist society. She talks about the struggle of these characters, why it was a challenge finding the right actress hard to cast the lead role for Madonna because there aren’t a lot of roles for full figured women in Korea, and how her former career as a schoolteacher prepared her as a director better than film school.
