County and School Bonds Passing

Five of the 10 constitutional amendment propositions have been approved by voters tonight. One has been rejected. The approved measures are:

  • Proposition 1:  Giving spouses of deceased disabled veterans property tax exemptions
  • Proposition 3:  Allowing the Higher Education Coordinating Board to issue bonds for low interest student loans
  • Proposition 5:  Allowing cities and counties to make interlocal agreements without creating a new taxing district
  • Proposition 9:  Permitting the governor to issue a pardon, reprieve or commutation of sentence to a person who completes deferred adjudication.
  • Proposition 10:  Extending the automatic resignation date for county officials seeking higher elected office.

So far the only defeated measure is Prop 4, which would give counties the same bonding authority as cities and the state for areas declared to be underdeveloped, unproductive or blighted.
Both Travis County bond proposals are cruising to victory. Each of the propositions has 60 percent of the vote.

Voters in the Lake Travis and Lago Vista ISDs have approved bond packages by wide margins. 63 percent “yes” for Lake Travis; 74 percent in favor for Lago Vista.

Voters in New Braunfels appear ready to ban the cans. The ordinance to ban disposable containers on the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers is winning with 66 percent so far. Backers want to reduce beer bottles and cans and other trash from the river banks.
